As part of ongoing cultural exchange between the United States and Algeria, and in partnership with the Algerian Ministry of Culture, U.S. Embassy Algiers is pleased to announce that El Foukr R’Assembly and Colter Harper & LKHD will perform and work with local artists and give workshops in Algiers and Béchar.

The artists will perform in Béchar on December 19 at Maison de la Culture at 18:00,
And in Algiers on December 23 at Salle Ibn Zeydoune at 18:00.

This is the second phase of a collaborative project between El Foukr R’Assembley and the Pittsburgh Institute for World Music and Performance (IWNP). During the first phase of the project, four Algerian artists from El Foukr R’Assembly travelled to the United States in February 2016 for a four-week visit to record music in collaboration with U.S. artists, perform and exhibit with U.S. artists in Pittsburgh, New York, and Washington D.C.

El Foukr R’Assembly, co-founded by four Algerian artists in 2014 and part of the Afreekyama collective, works to steer Algerian and North African youth toward economically sustainable creative arts entrepreneurship. The Afreekyama collective launches performance projects that promote collaboration among diverse Algerian artists and their counterparts throughout the African continent.

This project underscores U.S. Embassy Algiers’ support for artistic entrepreneurship and the strengthening of people-to-people relations through cultural exchange.
