Deputy Secretary Visits Algeria to Co- Preside U.S – Algeria Strategic Dialogue

Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman paid a visit to Algeria on March 9-10. During a meeting with President Tebboune, the two discussed a range of issues, including ways to expand economic cooperation, regional security issues, and international developments. Deputy Secretary Sherman also co-chaired the fifth U.S.-Algeria Strategic Dialogue with Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra, agreeing on the importance of promoting regional stability, including support for ongoing UN-led diplomacy on the Western Sahara. Deputy Secretary Sherman also officially announced two new State Department initiatives in Algeria: the LINK Program which will give English classes to 120 Algerian government officials, and the Research Hub, a partnership with Notre Dame University to support cooperation among Algerian and American university researchers.
