English Access Microscholarship Program (Access)

The English Access Microscholarship Program (Access) is a global scholarship program supported by the U.S. Department of State that provides a foundation of English language skills to bright, economically disadvantaged students, through After-School classes and Intensive Sessions. Access students also gain an appreciation for U.S. culture and democratic values through enhancement activities and community outreach. Access seeks to equip selected students with strong English language skills –leading to better jobs, educational opportunities, and the ability to participate in and compete for future exchange programs in the United States. In Algeria, World Learning are the U.S. Embassy’s main partners, and they work to support and implement the program across the country. Enrollment fluctuates every year due to changes in funding and school participation. Currently in the 2017-2019 cycle, there are 175 students benefiting from the program across 07 wilayas.

In December 2018, 142 students graduated from the Access Program after completing 2 years of intense English study. The students attended schools all over the country including Algiers, Batna, Bechar, Blida, Mostaganem, Oran, and Setif. U.S. Embassy Algiers is thrilled to see so many students complete this important program, understanding the amount of time, efforts and sacrifices that went into graduating. A special thanks must go out to staff, teachers and coordinators that make all of this possible. We are excited to see where these great students will go from here on their path to better themselves and their communities.
