Algiers, Algeria—Representatives of the United States and Algeria met on April 18, 2018, to review bilateral efforts to counter the threat posed by the trafficking of nuclear and other radioactive materials.
The meeting was part of a 2013 Framework of Cooperation that outlines areas in which the United States and Algeria can work together to prevent, detect, and respond to the threat of nuclear and other radioactive materials trafficking. Since initiating this agreement, the two countries have held workshops and shared best practices on a number of topics related to nuclear and radiological security, including weapons of mass destruction interdiction preparedness and technical exchanges on nuclear forensics.
During the meeting, both countries identified additional areas for future cooperation under the Framework and specific steps to advance their partnership for countering illicit nuclear and other radioactive materials trafficking.
