It’s an honor to meet with Foreign Minister Messahel (or Prime Minister Ouyahia) and other senior leaders here in Algeria. It is a beautiful country and I am grateful for the Prime Minister’s warm welcome and time. This visit is providing me an important opportunity to hear directly from Algeria’s leadership about our shared defense and security concerns. Our nations are working together as equal partners to build a better future, not just in Algeria, but across North Africa. Through a strong partnership, our countries are better able to combat the root causes of terrorism and promote peace and stability. I and the rest of the U.S. Africa Command staff, working as part of a comprehensive U.S. government effort coordinated by Ambassador Desrocher, look forward to exploring future security cooperation activities with Algeria.
