Application for a Social Security Card

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has consolidated its overseas operations into several regional offices that provide a full range of SSA services for U.S. citizens residing outside of the United States.  Individuals residing in Algiers who require social security services or have questions about SSA benefits must contact the SSA Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) located in France.  For more information or any questions about the services provided at the FBU in France and how to contact them, please visit their webpage.

For applicants aged 12 or older, the U.S. Embassy in Algiers can accept the application for a Social Security Card (PDF 125KB).  If you are applying on behalf of a child, please ensure that you have already obtained a U.S. Consular Report of Birth Abroad and a Passport for your child.

When you have completed the application, you can request an appointment on-line with the U.S. Embassy in Algiers.   We will forward your completed Social Security application to the Federal Benefits Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Paris for processing.  Please note that processing times can be several months.
