The U.S. Embassy in Algiers hosted a delegation of Members of Congress from the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Appropriations, July 2-3, 2017. The delegation, led by Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen, visited Algiers as part of a regional trip to strengthen U.S. relations in the Maghreb region. During their visit, the delegation and U.S. Ambassador Joan Polaschik met with His Excellency Mr. Abdelkader Bensalah, President of the Council of the Nation, His Excellency Mr. Said Bouhadja, President of the National People’s Assembly, and officials from the Ministry of National Defense to discuss efforts to promote economic cooperation, combat terrorism and enhance security in the region, and other areas of bilateral cooperation.
The Congressional delegation was comprised of: Honorable Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), Chairman, U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Appropriations; Honorable Peter Visclosky (D-IN), Ranking Member, U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Defense; and Honorable Ken Calvert (R-CA), Vice Chairman, U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Defense and Chairman, Subcommittee on Interior.
